"If I could leave this place forever, I would. This is what happens when you start caring"

-Meera Hawke's feelings about Kirkwall

Meera Hawke is a Ferelden refugee and a skilled warrior who would eventually become the Champion of Kirkwall, though rather reluctantly so. While she never really liked the city and thought of leaving many times, she could never bring herself to do so. She was quite pleased to see the back of the place when she was forced to flee after the start of the mage rebellion. After the events of Adamant, she sent a letter to the Grey Wardens explaining what happened and became a pirate alongside her lover, Isabela.

Appearance and Personality[edit | edit source]

Meera, at 5'8", is fairly tall for a woman, and has a decent amount of lean muscule around her arms and shoulders as a result of using a bow for most of her life. She has dark red hair, a slightly long, hooked nose, and rather striking blue eyes.

Meera is known to be rather snarky, but she's also a bit rough around the edges and has a bit of an aggressive streak. She doesn't always have the best in the way of social skills, but she tries her hardest.

Meera starts out trying to keep people at a distance and maintain little more than casual relationships, but as she loses her own family, she comes to see the Kirkwall crew as a found family and has nothing but affection for most of them, caring far more than she thought that she could.

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Malcolm and Leandra[edit | edit source]

Meera loved her father, but she was a bit distant from him because he had to spend most of his time with Bethany. Her relationship with Leandra was always a little distant and she seemed to favor the twins over Meera, who was a bit harder to deal with, particularly after she became head of the family. They began to repair their relationship after the Deep Roads expedition only for Leandra's murder.

Carver[edit | edit source]

Meera was actually rather close with Carver, the pair had a friendly rivalry and often competed with each other. Carver was always the better swordsman, but Meera was always the better archer. They really bonded at Ostagar, and his death at the hands at the ogre still haunt Meera whenever she thinks about it.

Bethany[edit | edit source]

Meera adored her little sister and did her best to protect her however she could, and was determined to keep her out of the Circle. Her protective instincts led her to be furious when she was carted off to the Circle, and she worried for her sister every time she heard of the goings-on in the Gallows. As a result of all this, she refused to believe that her sister was happy there, and the relationship between the sisters became strained as a result.

Varric[edit | edit source]

Varric and Meera got along quite well with each other, although Meera never really got why he thought that Kirkwall was so great. Still, they can often be seen at the Hanged Man with each other sharing a drink, a story, and a friendly game of cards.

Aveline[edit | edit source]

The two women butted heads on almost everything, from Meera choosing to mercy-kill Wesley, Meera not really respecting the laws all that much, Aveline's protection of a rapist guard, Aveline trying to cover up the investigation into Quentin - something that resulted in a huge shouting match between the two and which Meera blamed for Leandra's death. By the end of things, Meera didn't talk to Aveline all that much anymore.

Still, despite Meera's general distaste for Aveline, she still helped her out with courting Donnic, partially out of guilt for being the one to kill her first husband and believing that she deserved happiness. It wasn't enough to salvage the relationship though, and Aveline abandoned Meera following her decision to support the mages.

Merrill[edit | edit source]

Meera always found Merrill's blood magic to be a little unnerving, but found her pleasant enough to talk to and thought that the way others treated her was wrong. In the end, Meera figured that Merrill knew what she was doing and supported her, feeling that she was a grown woman who could make her own decisions.

Anders[edit | edit source]

Meera quickly developed a liking for Anders, admired his determination to help people, and they bonded over their shared disdain for the Templars. The pair became very close, and Meera considered him to be one of her best friends by the end of things. Having no love for the Chantry, Meera saw his actions as rather brutally pragmatic and ended up sparing his life because he would be much better use to his friends and his fellow mages alive than if he was dead. She sent him off with some money and told him to get in touch with her if he ever needed it.

Fenris[edit | edit source]

Despite Meera's support for the mages, the two got along remarkably well, helped along by the fact that Meera despised slavery and was completely behind him pretty much every time he had to face Danarius and his goons. She also helped him learn to read and got him to open up and spend time with the rest of the group, and the two were very good friends by the end of it all.

Isabela[edit | edit source]

Meera was attracted on sight to the pirate, because...well, she was hot, but she also liked Isabela's attitude and taste for freedom and adventure. The two developed a friendship that quickly turned into a sexual relationship, and Meera was more than happy to defend Isabela from the Arishok, but Isabela's departure right after she admitted she had come back specifically for Meera threw a wrench into their relationship for a while. After Isabela's return, they admitted that they had feelings for each other and resumed their relationship, and couldn't be happier for it.

Sebastian[edit | edit source]

Meera never really liked Sebastian, feeling like his constant preaching about the Chantry was annoying beyond all belief. She encouraged him to reclaim Starkhaven just so he'd shut up about it. Their relationship fell apart completely after she refused to execute Anders and he was absolutely disgusted at him threatening to invade Kirkwall because he didn't get his way.
