Amaranta Ofelia Nehanda Trevelyan (Born 9:07 Dragon) also known as “The Herald of Andraste” is an elf-blooded human noble from Ostwick in the Free Marches. The younger daughter of Bann Ende Trevelyan and Lady Ophelia Trevelyan (née Pentaghast), she was sent to the Ostwick Circle at eight years old and later transferred to the Montsimmard Circle. Under the tutelage and care of then-Enchanter Vivienne, Amaranta rose to occupy a position of power and influence at the Circle there in addition to a place at the Imperial Court, including a decade-long affair with Grand Duke Gaspard de Chalons. Following her miraculous survival after the destruction of the Temple of Sacred Ashes, she assumes the moniker of Herald and then Lady Inquisitor of the Second Inquisition.
At the conclusion of the Exalted Council, Amaranta Trevelyan reformed the Inquisition as a peacekeeping force under Divine Victoria, installing another as Inquisitor a year following this action. As of 9:50 Dragon, she holds the title of Comtesse in Kirkwall and Comtesse of Lancre in the Emerald Graves—one of three mages to hold a noble rank within the Orlesian Empire.

Physical Appearance[]
Amaranta is considered diminutive for a human—standing at just 5’0’’ (152 cm), she makes up for her size in her looks. Dark-skinned, with glossy red-gold hair and violet eyes, her coloring is unique amongst even the Trevelyans and rumors fly about concerning her true heritage on a consistent basis, although her resemblance to her aunts, Adiza, Lucille and Euphemia Trevelyan cannot be ignored. Despite her size, she has long legs and a somewhat small torso—she is curvy and soft. Although she is considered breathtakingly beautiful, there is something uncanny about her appearance to those who bother to look for long enough—her eyes are just a little too large, her waist a little too slender, something about her doesn’t quite fit.
Amaranta enjoys dressing in shades of black, gold and red—it might just be the colors that she enjoys the most or it can be an attempt to intimidate those who might mistake her size and frail health for a sign of weakness. Although she prefers dresses in her civilian life, as Inquisitor, she favors longcoats and small pieces of armor scattered across her clothing. Fashion, as she has been taught by mentor Vivienne, is just as effective a tool as something like silverite armor.
Amaranta rarely, if ever wears jewelry, although the appearance of a dragon tooth necklace amongst her clothing in late 9:41 Dragon is worthy of note.
Personality[]
In 9:32 Dragon, during a hunt at the Grand Duke Gaspard de Chalon’s estates in Verchiel, Amaranta Trevelyan made her informal debut as the chevalier’s mistress. By the end of the day, his skeptical men lovingly christened her the ‘Bitch of Verchiel’, for her cutting tongue and determination.
Amaranta, born frail and naturally small, makes up for her ‘shortcomings’ with an iron will and sharp intellect. Although curious, eager to please and cheerful as a little girl, as an adult, she wields her natural charisma as adeptly as she wields magic. Raised in the politically connected Trevelyan family and then the Circle at Montsimmard, she understands the value of a few honeyed words and the occasional application of force. Unless one knows her well it can be hard to determine what she is actually thinking, but for those who have proven themselves allies and trusted counsel, she allows them to be privy to a different side of her. Amaranta can be playful, affectionate and devoted to those she calls family and friends.
Her sharp tongue can sometimes be too harsh, and her privileged experience growing up and throughout life blunted her in many ways to the realities faced by many people. She has a small inferiority complex, having been overlooked by many on account of her poor health in the past. She is manipulative and pragmatic, not above the occasional slight of hand or deception to accomplish her agenda.
Talents and Skills[]
Magic: When Amaranta’s magic manifested at the age of 8, no one could have predicted exactly how powerful she would turn out to be. Training first at the Circle of Ostwick and then the Circle at Montsimmard, she would be Harrowed at the comparatively young age of 16. Amaranta soon found her calling in the ice aspect of elemental magic and healing—she would eventually undergo the training necessary to become a fully-fledged Knight Enchanter. She has a fascination with more esoteric branches of magic, including the study of spirits—aided by the fact that she is a Dreamer.
Languages: While Amaranta’s native tongue is Ostwickian, she is a polyglot by necessity. In addition to the Ostwickian, she speaks High Marcher, Nevarran, Ciraine Orlesian and Antivan. She reluctantly learns High Alamarri and speaks some Qunlat and broken Vulgar Tevene.
Assorted Skills: Born into a family of middling noble status but extraordinary wealth, Amaranta was set to receive an exceptional education (by Marcher standards) before her magic manifested. Before going to the Circle, she knew her letters, arithmetic and was beginning to learn history and religious studies, as her family had ambitions of marrying her off to Starkhaven. When her magic wound up manifesting, she continued her studies before her transfer to Montsimmard, where she became the direct apprentice of Vivienne and an unofficial ward of the de Ghislain family. In addition to her magical studies at the Circle, Duchess Nicoline de Ghislain saw to it that Amaranta learned politics, rhetoric, the etiquette of the Imperial Court, dance, singing, playing the harpsicord and equestrianism. Curiously, she also learned aspects of household management.
